Chefs Cam Emirali and Kieran Morland bring bold, seasonal cooking to Batu Bolong with a menu rooted in fire and flavour.

Tucked into Batu Bolong, Canggu, LUMA is a restaurant shaped by friendship, fire, and a love for bold, ingredient-driven food. At the heart of it are chefs Cam Emirali and Kieran Morland, two longtime friends and respected names in the culinary world, now reunited in Bali to cook the food they love, using local produce and a Mediterranean lens.

Cam made his name in London as the chef-owner of 10 Greek Street, known for its fresh, seasonal menus and unfussy, flavour-first approach. Kieran, meanwhile, is behind two of Bali’s most iconic modern Indonesian restaurants Merah Putih and Sangsaka where he pioneered a style of cooking rooted in native ingredients and wood fire. The two first crossed paths in London kitchens, and LUMA marks their return to cooking side by side.

At LUMA, the pair combine their strengths: Cam’s background in European bistro cooking and Kieran’s deep knowledge of Indonesian ingredients. The result is a menu that’s both rustic and refined—changing weekly and always led by what’s in season. You’ll find dishes like grilled octopus with orzo and squid ink aioli, Batik lobster risotto with chilli butter, seaweed-wrapped prawns with romesco and kenari, and lamb shoulder with garlic and sprouting broccoli.

A custom-built wood-fired oven and charcoal grill sit at the heart of the kitchen, adding depth and character to every plate. The cooking is rooted in tradition but open to experimentation, always letting good produce lead the way.

The drinks list is just as thoughtful. The wine program features a tight selection of natural and classic labels, with most available by the glass or carafe. Cocktails celebrate regional flavours like torch ginger, calamansi lime, Flores honey, and locally distilled gin.

LUMA occupies a former villa reimagined by local architecture studio Design Assembly. Its interiors take cues from the Southern Mediterranean, with whitewashed walls, arched doorways, and marble mosaic floors. The layout is airy but intimate, with room for 140 guests across a formal dining room, bar seating, private group space, and a sunken lounge. Some nights feature acoustic sets or DJs, but the real focus stays on food, drinks, and connection.

For Cam and Kieran, LUMA is about cooking without ego, just honest food, great produce, and a space that brings people together. “This feels like a natural next chapter for both of us,” says Cam. “It’s simple food, done well, in a place that feels good to be in.”
