Nuanu Creative City has launched a 1,000 Tree Planting Initiative as part of its long-term commitment to integrating environmental restoration into the development of its 44-hectare creative city in Bali.

Led by Magic Garden and supported by Nuanu Social Fund, the initiative will see 1,000 local tree species planted across key areas of Nuanu, including public spaces, gardens, temple areas, roadsides, and community-facing zones. The programme is designed to strengthen the area’s green infrastructure, support local biodiversity, and ensure that ecological preservation remains an active part of Nuanu’s growth.
The initiative is carried out in collaboration with Eka Karya Bali Botanical Garden, whose involvement brings expertise in local plant conservation, biodiversity preservation, and long-term restoration practices. Together, the partners aim to build a more resilient landscape that supports both environmental health and community life.
For Nuanu, the initiative reflects a broader development philosophy: that growth must be measured not only through buildings, infrastructure, and visitor numbers, but also through the health of the surrounding ecosystem.
“As a development, Nuanu Creative City could be described simply — when we are done, there will be more trees here than when we started. For us, today is a symbolic way to celebrate things we try to do every day — plant trees that will grow with Nuanu, respect nature and make it one of the reasons people come or decide to live here, and protect and improve the authentic biodiversity of Bali — basically, to be a platform where the amazing things Bali already has can continue to grow and shine,” said Lev Kroll, CEO of Nuanu.

“We think that nature should be a key aspect of any development. What makes this 1,000 Trees initiative special is that it allows us to come together with communities, friends, and partners to do it together. We are fascinated by how nature brings people together and want Nuanu to be a celebration of that, among other things — because every tree is a story, and Nuanu is all about those stories,” Lev Kroll added.
Through Magic Garden, Nuanu has continued to develop green spaces that are not only aesthetic, but ecological and educational. The 1,000 Tree Planting Initiative builds on this approach by placing native and locally relevant species within the everyday landscape of Nuanu, allowing residents, visitors, and communities to encounter nature as part of daily life.
The initiative is also supported by Nuanu Social Fund, the social and environmental impact platform within the Nuanu ecosystem. NSF works across community-based programmes, sustainability initiatives, and long-term collaborations that connect Nuanu’s development with meaningful contributions to surrounding communities and the environment.
“Environmental responsibility needs to be practical and sustained over time,” said Auditya Sari, Head of the Nuanu Social Fund. “This initiative goes beyond tree planting. It’s about rebuilding a stronger connection between people and the environment around them. When communities, partners, and visitors participate in the process, the landscape becomes something they feel connected to and responsible for.”
As part of the planting activity, community members, media, environmental advocates, and invited participants will be able to plant trees and place markers on them. This participatory element is intended to create a more personal connection between individuals and the long-term growth of the ecosystem.

Eka Karya Bali Botanical Garden’s collaboration further strengthens the initiative’s focus on biodiversity preservation and the use of appropriate local species.
“We see a strong alignment in values with Nuanu, particularly in the way the environment is positioned as an essential part of long-term development, rather than an afterthought,” said Hadhiyyah N. Cahyono, Assistant Manager of Horticulture, Sub-Holding of Bali Botanical Garden & Purwodadi Botanical Garden. “Initiatives like this show how cross-institution collaboration can support biodiversity preservation, environmental awareness, and more responsible development practices in Bali.”
The 1,000 Tree Planting Initiative forms part of Nuanu’s wider effort to develop as a creative city where culture, community, infrastructure, and nature are planned together. By embedding ecological restoration into its public spaces and development process, Nuanu aims to contribute to a more balanced model of growth in Bali.
