TACO continues to promote the adoption of sustainable design in the interior industry by encouraging designers and architects to consider materials not only based on their function and aesthetics, but also on their life cycle. This commitment is reflected through various initiatives that encourage more responsible material use, including a collaboration with Studio Banda to present the “Modulus Laminata” installation in Bali.
The initiative is part of TACO’s efforts to broaden the understanding of circular design while demonstrating that leftover materials can have new potential when combined with creativity and the right design approach.
Modulus Laminata: Turning Production Leftovers into Functional Works
Together with Studio Banda, TACO presents “Modulus Laminata,” an installation that explores the potential of HPL materials previously considered waste and transforms them into functional and aesthetically valuable design elements. The installation demonstrates how a circular design approach can extend the life cycle of materials while creating new possibilities for the interior industry.
“TACO’s commitment to the zero-waste principle is part of our efforts to manage materials more responsibly throughout our business processes. Through our collaboration with Studio Banda and Indonesia’s creative industry players, we want to demonstrate that leftover materials do not have to end up as waste, but can instead be transformed into works with new functions and value. We hope Modulus Laminata can serve as an example of how cross-industry collaboration can encourage the adoption of circular design while creating more opportunities for creativity and innovation in Indonesia,” said Anastasia Tirtabudi, Chief Marketing Officer of TACO.
Cokorda Suryanata, Founder of Studio Banda, added: “This collaboration demonstrates that material limitations can actually become the starting point for creativity. Together with TACO, we explored how HPL materials previously regarded as production leftovers can be transformed into objects that have both functional and artistic value. We hope Modulus Laminata will encourage more designers to see circular design as a relevant approach for the future of the industry.”
Through TACO Social Club Bali, TACO provides an educational and collaborative space for designers and architects. Together with Studio Banda, the programme features a talk show discussing the creative process and material exploration behind “Modulus Laminata,” as well as a workshop inviting participants to transform leftover HPL materials into lamp creations. The activities demonstrate how leftover materials can regain function and value through a circular design approach.
These efforts are also supported by the presence of TACO Material Studio Bali, which has become part of TACO’s ecosystem in Bali as a source of inspiration and material solutions for designers and architects. Located on Sunset Road, the facility provides access to a variety of TACO material solutions while serving as a space for professionals to discuss, explore product applications firsthand, and obtain material samples to support the design process The presence of TACO Material Studio Bali further strengthens TACO’s role in supporting the needs and development of Bali’s design community.
