Indonesia issues special takbiran guidelines in Bali as Eid al-Fitr 1447 H is expected to coincide with Nyepi on 19 March 2026.

Indonesia’s Ministry of Religious Affairs of Indonesia has issued a special guideline regarding the observance of the Eid al-Fitr takbiran night for 1447 Hijri, which is predicted to coincide with the Balinese Day of Silence, Nyepi, on 19 March 2026.

Eid al-Fitr takbiran night for 1447 Hijri is predicted to coincide with the Balinese Day of Silence, Nyepi, on 19 March 2026.

Coordination to Maintain Religious Harmony in Bali

The announcement about the special guideline follows the decision by Muhammadiyah, which has already determined the date of Eid al-Fitr 2026. According to Muhammadiyah, 1 Shawwal 1447 H, marking Eid al-Fitr, will fall on Friday, 20 March 2026. The organization uses the hisab hakiki method with the principles, conditions, and parameters of KGHT to determine the Islamic calendar.

Head of the Public Relations and Public Communication Bureau of the Ministry, Thobib Al Asyhar, explained that the guideline was the result of coordination between the Ministry, local government, religious leaders, and community representatives in Bali. The goal is to maintain harmony and religious tolerance on the island.

Special Takbiran Guidelines in Bali

For Muslims in Bali who plan to observe takbiran during Nyepi, several rules must be followed:

Location and Movement

Takbiran may be held at the nearest mosque or prayer room, and participants are encouraged to travel on foot.

No Loudspeakers or Fireworks

The use of outdoor loudspeakers, fireworks, firecrackers, or other noise-making devices is prohibited.

Time and Lighting

Activities are limited from 18:00 to 21:00 WITA, with only minimal lighting allowed.

Shared Security

Security arrangements will be handled by mosque or prayer room administrators in coordination with security authorities, village officials, traditional village leaders, and Pecalang.

Encouraging Mutual Respect During Nyepi and Eid

Echoing this approach, I Nengah Duija, Director General of Hindu Community Guidance, stated that the guideline reflects a respectful approach to religious coexistence. The arrangement is expected to help maintain harmony between communities as two major religious observances take place around the same time in Bali, which are Nyepi and Eid al-Fitr.

By following the agreed guidelines, both communities are encouraged to respect each other’s traditions and maintain a peaceful atmosphere on the island. It is hoped that people of all faiths will observe the rules responsibly so that comfort, tolerance, and interfaith harmony in Bali can continue to be preserved.
