The Meru Sanur and Bali Beach Hotel mark World Turtle Day with Olive Ridley hatchling release and marine conservation efforts in Bali.

In celebration of World Turtle Day, The Meru Sanur and Bali Beach Hotel, The Heritage Collection reaffirm their commitment to environmental conservation by organizing a sea turtle hatchling release activity for the second time, in collaboration with the Turtle Conservation and Education Center.

This year, the released hatchlings are Olive Ridley turtles, one of the species commonly found in Indonesian waters and known for their important role in maintaining marine ecosystem balance.

This annual initiative represents a tangible effort to preserve marine biodiversity while raising awareness about the importance of protecting endangered species, including sea turtles. Sea turtle conservation has become a global issue discussed by countries within the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), which encourages international agreements to protect endangered flora and fauna habitats.

In line with this, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) regulates international trade to ensure that it does not threaten species survival. Within its classification system, CITES categorizes species into several levels, ranging from those that are critically endangered and require strict protection to those that must be monitored to prevent them from becoming threatened.

Sea turtles play a vital role in maintaining the balance of marine ecosystems. Their presence helps sustain the health of coral reefs and seagrass beds, supports coastal vegetation balance, and controls jellyfish populations. Therefore, conserving sea turtles is an essential part of maintaining ecological balance and sustaining life on Earth.

“World Turtle Day serves as a reminder that small actions can create a significant impact. Together with The Meru Sanur and Bali Beach Hotel, The Heritage Collection, we are proud to support sea turtle conservation efforts in Bali through experiences that combine education, community engagement, and sustainable tourism. We believe that wellness also means protecting the environment that sustains our lives,” said Caitie Younghwa Lee, Vice President of Operations & Customer Relations, The Sanur.

Meanwhile, Ed Brea, General Manager of The Meru Sanur and Bali Beach Hotel, The Heritage Collection, added, “We are proud to continue this meaningful initiative for the second time. Through the release of Olive Ridley hatchlings, we hope to inspire our guests and the wider community to take part in preserving marine life. As a beachfront destination, protecting marine ecosystems is not only our responsibility but also part of the legacy we aim to preserve for future generations.”

Through this World Turtle Day commemoration, The Meru Sanur and Bali Beach Hotel, The Heritage Collection reaffirm their commitment as hospitality industry players who not only deliver exceptional experiences but also actively contribute to environmental sustainability.

Supported by collaboration with “The Sanur,” Special Economic Zone for Health and Wellness, Turtle Conservation and Education Center, Tanamera Coffee, and Alster Lake Clinic, this hatchling release activity stands as a real example of cross-sector collaboration united by a shared goal to protect and preserve marine ecosystems for future generations.

The involvement of Alster Lake Clinic in this collaboration further strengthens the message that human health and environmental health are closely interconnected, making environmental conservation an integral part of holistic well-being.

This initiative is expected to continue inspiring awareness that every small action can create a meaningful impact on the future of our planet, while reinforcing a shared commitment to preserving Bali’s natural environment and biodiversity for generations to come.
