Jakarta is celebrating its 499th anniversary this year. To commemorate the occasion, the Jakarta Provincial Government has introduced a new Car Free Day (CFD) zone along Jalan HR Rasuna Said on Sunday, 10th May 2026. Running from 5:30 to 10 AM, Jakartans now have another option to stay active in a public space and reduce emissions.

Governor Pramono Anung revealed that the Rasuna Said zone complements the long-established Bundaran HI-Sudirman route. Beginning 1st June, CFD will operate weekly across both locations, starting from 5:30 AM.

“The turnout has been extraordinary—even on its first day, people showed up in large numbers from early morning,” Anung noted.

Beyond its functional role, Rasuna Said is also being positioned as a refreshed urban icon. The corridor—named after national hero Hajjah Rangkayo Rasuna Said—is undergoing significant upgrades, with improvements expected to be completed by June 2026. The area is currently being reorganised following the removal of long-abandoned monorail pillars.

Possible adjustments under review

Despite the positive reception, the city is considering shortening CFD hours in Rasuna Said. Feedback from nearby places of worship highlighted potential overlaps with Sunday services, which typically begin at 10 AM.

“We will maintain the 05:30 start time, but the end time will likely be earlier,” mentioned Pramono, noting that the final schedule will be announced before 1s June.

He added that while adjustments for Rasuna Said are under consideration, operating hours for the Sudirman–Thamrin route may also be reviewed, potentially ending at 9:30 or 10 AM.

Traffic diversions and accessibility

Acting Head of the Jakarta Transportation Agency, Ujang Harmawan, stated that the car-free zone covers both sides of the Rasuna Said corridor. On the eastern side, restrictions will apply from the Gembira intersection to Jl. Raya Casablanca, while the western side stretches from Jl. Prof. Dr. Satrio to Setiabudi Utara Raya.

Traffic will be redirected through a series of alternative routes, including corridors via Jl. Sultan Agung, Jl. Galunggung, Jl. Prof. Dr. Satrio, and Jl. KH Mas Mansyur, among others—ensuring continued connectivity across key areas such as Manggarai, Tanah Abang, Karet, and Kampung Melayu.

Up to 3,687 parking spaces have also been prepared, including facilities at Pasar Festival, GOR Soemantri, Rasuna Epicentrum, Setiabudi One, and Gedung Nyi Ageng Serang.

Public transport remains fully operational. Services from TransJakarta—including routes connecting Ragunan, Kuningan, and Balai Kota—continue running, alongside the LRT Jabodebek lines linking Dukuh Atas with Harjamukti and Jatimulya.
