South Jakarta’s ultimate playground is gearing up for a monumental skyline glow-up. PT MRT Jakarta has officially revealed plans for the "Blok M Ultimate Development," a full-scale overhaul designed to elevate the sprawling creative district into a world-class Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) hub.
Known for its vinyl record shops, indie coffee spots, and viral culinary pop-ups, Blok M currently draws an average of 25,000 visitors daily. Transit operators are now taking the neighborhood’s success to the next level by introducing a sleek, mixed-use landscape.
Blok M Ultimate Development: High-Rise Towers & Skybridge Connectivity
Plans feature new high-rise towers housing hotel suites, serviced apartments, commercial hubs, and dedicated housing units for middle-to-lower-income communities. Pedestrians can expect seamless mobility via the new Blok M Direct Link skybridge, which will directly connect the Blok M BCA MRT Station, the bus terminal, and the commercial Blok M Hub.
"This is about transformation—and when the time comes, it will be a major revitalization to ensure Blok M grows with an even more comfortable TOD setup," said M. Iqbal Bimo Arifianto, Property Management Division Head at PT MRT Jakarta, during a media briefing in Jakarta.
"Looking at the initial concepts, there are several towers planned. These won't just hold standard apartments and hotels; there could be serviced apartments, alongside dedicated housing designed specifically for middle-to-lower-income residents," Bimo added.
Transforming South Jakarta's TOD Transit Sanctuary & Pedestrian Infrastructure
The ambitious initiative addresses aging infrastructure—some of which dates back 30 to 50 years—while aiming to channel the area's iconic peak energy from the 1990s into a modern transit sanctuary. Beyond structural upgrades, the plan emphasizes limited private parking facilities alongside expanded park-and-ride options to encourage public transit reliance across South Jakarta.
While global investment partnerships across Southeast Asia are currently being finalized to support the project, city commuters and urban explorers can look forward to a cleaner, hyper-connected, and pedestrian-first city center.
