In the fast-paced world of hospitality, we often talk about "service." But at Hotel Tentrem Yogyakarta, service has taken on a deeper, more spiritual meaning. Through their social initiative, Tilem ing Tentrem, the hotel is looking beyond the guest rooms and into the hearts of those who spend their lives looking after others: the caregivers of children battling cancer.
Now in its second year, this program—held in partnership with Yayasan Kasih Anak Kanker Indonesia (YKAKI)—is built on the philosophy of Tilem, a moment of stillness and balance. It recognizes a poignant truth: that to care for others effectively, one must first find the space to care for oneself.
Addressing the Silent Struggle: Compassion Fatigue
The journey began on April 27, 2026, with a specialized Psychological Support & Self-Care Session. While much of the world focuses on the patients, Hotel Tentrem turned its attention to the seven dedicated staff members and caregivers at the YKAKI Halfway House.
The session tackled a vital yet often overlooked topic: Compassion Fatigue. In the warm, reflective halls of the hotel, caregivers were guided through the emotional exhaustion that comes from constant empathy. It was a day of validation—a reminder that their fatigue is real, and that pausing to breathe isn't a luxury, but a necessity. To complement the mental healing, the participants were treated to facials and relaxation sessions, offering a rare physical "coma" in their demanding daily lives.
Movie Day: Finding Joy Beyond the Ward
The spirit of togetherness extended into the weekend of May 9, 2026, as the Hotel Tentrem Group hosted a Movie Day at Empire XXI Yogyakarta. The theater was filled with laughter and the smell of popcorn as children, their families, and their caregivers gathered for a special screening of the film Na Willa.
Away from the sterile environment of hospitals and the rigors of treatment, this was a day for pure childhood joy. "We believe that meaningful support doesn't always have to be a grand gesture," says Christoporus Yulianto, Corporate General Manager of Hotel Tentrem Group. "Sometimes, the space to stop for a moment, to be heard, and to feel accompanied is what matters most."
A Sustainable Journey of Care
Tilem ing Tentrem is not a one-time event; it is a sustained commitment. Hotel Tentrem Yogyakarta has already scheduled follow-up sessions for July and October 2026 to ensure that the emotional connection and support for YKAKI caregivers remain consistent.
By fostering this "human-to-human" connection, Hotel Tentrem is redefining corporate social responsibility. They are proving that true hospitality is about creating a sanctuary—not just for travelers, but for the heroes in our community who give so much of themselves to others.
