In the heart of Prawirotaman, Yogyakarta, Moesson Gallery offers more than a collection of old objects. Its curated space brings together antiques from Indonesia, Europe, America, and Asia, creating a place where history can be seen and appreciated.
Established in 1997, Moesson was founded by Jacobus William Heijstek (Mr. Wim), an antique enthusiast who began as a private collector. Starting from small finds like antique safes, his growing collection and public interest eventually shaped Moesson into the gallery it is today.

A Collection Shaped by Different Cultures
Moesson Gallery brings together antiques with different cultural backgrounds and histories. Its collection includes pieces from France, the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, the United States, Japan, and China, alongside objects connected to Java and Bali.
The collection includes furniture, lamps, sculptures, ceramics, vases, plates, and other decorative pieces. Some objects have surprising origins. Among the pieces found in the gallery are lamps made in Kediri, Indonesia, as well as antique lamps from Europe. The mix gives visitors an opportunity to discover how different cultures and periods can meet in one space.
A Passion That Became a Lifelong Dedication
Before Moesson became a well known antique gallery in Yogyakarta, Mr. Wim was already passionate about collecting antique objects. He traveled to different places in search of pieces with historical value and character.
His early collection began on a small scale, with antique safes as one of his personal specialties. As interest in his finds grew, this passion gradually developed into a dedicated business.
Today, that same dedication continues in how Moesson selects, preserves, and presents its collection. Each piece is treated not just as an old object, but as something that carries traces of its past.
Antique Highlights at Moesson Gallery
Liesegang Janus Epidioscope Projector
Made in Düsseldorf, Germany, around 1910, this vintage projector was designed to display 6×6 slides and project photographs. Its early technology and distinctive design add to the heritage atmosphere of the gallery.
Victor Victrola Table Gramophone 1906 VV-IX
Produced by the Victor Talking Machine Company in 1906, this table gramophone features a mahogany cabinet, nickel plated details, and a classic spring motor system. The piece offers a glimpse into the development of audio technology in the early 20th century.
Vintage Film Projector
Displayed in the back area of the gallery, this vintage film projector was made in Europe and is estimated to date back to the 1940s or 1950s. Its authentic appearance and historical character make it one of the objects that catches visitors’ attention.
