This summer, art enthusiasts will have an unprecedented opportunity to immerse themselves in Pablo Picasso’s artistic universe during Art Macao. Presented by SJM Resorts S.A. in collaboration with the Málaga City Council and Museo Casa Natal Picasso, the global debut of “Picasso: Beauty and Drama” will make its grand premiere at Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau. The exhibition will showcase original masterpieces created by Picasso’s own hand, serving as one of the special exhibition of “Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2025”.
The exhibition features artworks on loan from Museo Casa Natal Picasso in Málaga - the artist’s birthplace and the wellspring of his early artistic inspirations. Breaking new ground, this exhibition offers an intimate look at Picasso beyond the canvas. While Picasso is renowned worldwide as a painter, viewers will witness his full creative evolution through a curated collection of original works in printmaking, ceramics, and illustration. Through the curated selection, visitors can trace the artistic journey of the master – from his early technical brilliance to his later boundary-pushing explorations. The exhibition also echoes the theme of Art Macao 2025: “Hey, what brings you here?”, inviting visitors to reflect on the relationship between art, identity, and one’s original creative drive—a question Picasso ceaselessly asked himself throughout his life.
Now in its third edition, Art Macao is held under the pastronage of the Macao SAR Government’s Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture, organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, and co-organised by Macao Government Tourism Office. The Biennale aims to foster meaningful dialogue across culture and artistic exchange while advancing its strategic objectives to elevate Macau’s international cultural profile, nurture local creative talent, and reinforce the city’s evolving role as a world-class destination for cultural tourism. As a long-standing supporter of Macau’s cultural development, SJM is proud to play an active role in this government-led initiative—bringing world-class exhibitions to Macau and working in close partnership to enrich the city’s cultural landscape as a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure.
"Picasso: Beauty and Drama" global premiere is set to be unveiled at Grand Lisboa Palace. Stay tuned.
