Jakarta's iconic green space, Taman Puring, has temporarily closed its gates to make way for a trailblazing inclusive Microlibrary.

Kebayoran Baru's beloved green escape, Taman Puring, has officially closed its gates to visitors for a major, community-minded transformation. Banners now frame the park’s entrance, signposting the start of a groundbreaking public infrastructure project: the construction of the Microlibrary Taman Puring, a trailblazing learning sanctuary crafted specifically for the disability community.

Funding from the Netherlands-based Ammodo Foundation paves the way for this landmark initiative. Executed as a strategic partnership between the Jakarta Parks and City Forest Agency (Dinas Pertamanan dan Hutan Kota DKI Jakarta) and award-winning architecture studio PT SHAU Architects, the initiative officially kicked off following a groundbreaking ceremony led by the agency’s secretary, Eko Cahyono.

Architectural ingenuity leads the design process, blending eco-conscious design with urban functionality. A curved concrete rib spiral structure underpins the building, topped with a lush green roof that naturally regulates indoor temperatures to offer a cool, shaded reading environment that blends effortlessly into the park's lush tree canopy.

Accessibility sits at the very core of the project rather than functioning as an afterthought. Tactile paving, tactile guiding blocks, and clear Braille signage line the floor plan, while custom furniture caters directly to wheelchair users. Dedicated sensory rooms provide safe, low-stimulation spots for neurodivergent visitors. Ensuring visitors can commute independently and securely, continuous tactile guiding pathways connect the library directly to surrounding public transportation hubs.

Construction workers are currently on-site finishing structural work, with completion targeted for the end of the year. Once complete, this sustainable hub promises to set a new blueprint for truly accessible, eco-friendly public infrastructure across the capital.
