Mangkuluhur ARTOTEL Suites Officially Launches
“SOMEWHERE, ELSEWHERE,” an Exhibition by Puri Fidhini, at ARTSPACE

Mangkuluhur ARTOTEL Suites continues to bring contemporary art and creative expression to guests and public through “SOMEWHERE, ELSEWHERE,” an art exhibition by Indonesian artist Puri Fidhini in collaboration with the creative art studio EIARTI. Hosted at ARTSPACE, located on the Lobby Level of Mangkuluhur ARTOTEL Suites, the exhibition runs from September 25, 2026, to January 17, 2027.

“Somewhere, Elsewhere” explores the space between reality, memory, and imagination, reflecting Puri Fidhini’s artistic practice of translating personal experiences, journeys, and recollections into new visual landscapes. For Puri, space is not merely something to be viewed and recorded, but something that constantly evolves through experience, travel, and memory.

A significant influence on Puri’s artistic journey was her 2019 residency in Reykjavík, Iceland, where she encountered landscapes shaped by ice, mountains, the sea, and nature on a scale vastly different from her everyday environment. A return visit to Iceland in 2022 added new layers to that experience through observation, travel, and reconnecting with a landscape she has encountered. Rather than bringing home literal depictions of the location, Puri brought back fragments of experience that gradually became part of her memory.

These fragments are translated into surreal landscapes through Puri’s oil-on-canvas works. Natural and architectural elements—such as houses, mountains, air, and open spaces—are juxtaposed with objects associated with games, including chessboards, game pieces, cards, and dice. Games serve as a metaphor for life, representing strategy, choices, chance, victory, defeat, and the illusion of control; meanwhile, doors, windows, walls, and landscapes create boundaries between the visible and the hidden, as well as between familiar spaces and those shaped by imagination.

Rather than depicting specific locations, the artworks bring together fragments of things seen with things imagined. Through this approach, “SOMEWHERE, ELSEWHERE” invites visitors into the space between the familiar and the imagined—a realm where reality can shift and familiar sights reappear in unfamiliar forms.

The exhibition showcases a selection of Puri Fidhini’s works—including Fragmented Memories, Lost and Found in the Blue, A Scene from the Last Round, The Wake of a Giant, The Migration of The Whale, Echoes of Resilience, and Beneath Quiet Water —alongside other pieces featured in the exhibition.

Running until January 17, 2027, “SOMEWHERE, ELSEWHERE” is open to guests and visitors at ARTSPACE, located on the lobby level of Mangkuluhur ARTOTEL Suites, where art seamlessly integrates with the hotel’s contemporary atmosphere.
