Commuters traveling between Kelapa Gading and South-Central Jakarta now have a fast, reliable rail connection. On 26 August 2026, LRT Jakarta officially begins commercial operations on the highly anticipated Phase 1B extension, connecting the previous terminus at Velodrome in Rawamangun to the Manggarai transit hub.
The new 6.4-kilometer elevated extension seamlessly joins the existing 5.8-kilometer Phase 1A line. Together, this 12.2-kilometer continuous corridor bridges 11 modern stations, offering passengers a fixed travel time of just 28 minutes—cutting through some of the capital's most heavily congested thoroughfares.
Unlocking Manggarai: Passenger Numbers Projected to Surge
The opening of Phase 1B marks a monumental transformation for LRT Jakarta's operational scale. Previously limited to a localized 5.8-kilometer stretch serving 2,000 to 4,000 daily passengers, the extension directly integrates North Jakarta’s residential precincts with Manggarai Station—Jakarta’s primary central railway interchange.
Transportation officials project an immediate surge in daily ridership to approximately 60,000 passengers during the initial operational phase, with long-term daily capacity expected to stabilize at 80,000 commuters.

The Next Horizon: Phase 2 Expansion to Dukuh Atas
Manggarai serves as a critical transit stepping stone rather than the final destination. Municipal planning is already locked in for the next expansion phase toward Dukuh Atas, with construction targeted to begin in 2027 for a scheduled launch in August 2028.
Once complete, the Dukuh Atas extension will establish direct, single-seat transfers to the MRT Jakarta North-South Line, the LRT Jabodebek system, and the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Rail Link (KA Bandara), finalizing a fully unified rail grid across Greater Jakarta.
