Global Sevilla School Marks 24 Years with Love & Legacy,
Helping Parents Raise Independent and Resilient Children.
Global Sevilla School hosted Love & Legacy, a parenting seminar led by Dr. Asheena Baez, at its Pulo Mas campus in East Jakarta on Thursday, 22 October. Held as part of the school’s 24th anniversary celebrations, the event encouraged parents to recognise their children’s strengths and support them in becoming independent, resilient, and responsible. Through discussions and practical exercises, participants explored ways to manage their emotions, communicate with their children, and give them space to navigate challenges.
Andrew J. Jules Soebali, Chairman of the Budi Pekerti Luhur Foundation, explained that the initiative reflects Global Sevilla School’s mission to nurture globally minded students with strong character. He described parents, teachers, and students as three pillars that must support one another to ensure that learning at school continues at home.
The seminar also welcomed public figures whose children attend Global Sevilla School. They included musician and actor Ibrahim Imran, better known as Baim, alongside actress and Puteri Indonesia 2004 Artika Sari Devi, as well as actor Rionaldo Stokhorst and Aurelo Schulz. They joined fellow parents in exploring how to recognise their children’s strengths and support their development.
“For us, children’s success is also reflected in the character they develop, how they respect differences, care for others, and discover their calling in life. That is why parents, teachers, and students need to work together. Through Love & Legacy, we want to extend this learning opportunity to Global Sevilla School families and the wider community,” said Andrew Soebali.

During the seminar, Dr. Asheena Baez introduced strengths-based parenting, an approach centred on recognising and developing children’s strengths. She explained that busy schedules and everyday demands can lead parents to focus on shortcomings or step in too quickly to solve their children’s problems. This approach encourages parents to recognise the abilities their children already possess and help them draw on those strengths when facing difficulties.
“The first step is to pause and notice how you are feeling, without judgment. When parents understand their own emotions and are fully present, they create space to listen and respond more thoughtfully to their children. The greatest legacy we can offer is the love our children experience through their relationship with us,” said Dr. Asheena Baez.
Participants explored the Thermometer-to-Thermostat framework, which illustrates how parents’ responses can help create a calmer emotional environment at home. Through the concept of scaffolded struggle, parents also learned to provide support in stages while allowing children to try and solve problems themselves. Participants brought these lessons together in a Family Connection & Leadership Blueprint, a personal plan for applying what they had learned in everyday family life.
Dr. Asheena Baez is an educator, leadership and wellbeing expert, CEO of Asheena Baez Consulting LLC, and an Adjunct Professor at Columbia University. Andrew Soebali noted that Global Sevilla School’s collaboration with Dr. Baez has developed over approximately three years, including learning sessions for school staff and management. The seminar provided an opportunity to extend this experience to more parents.
Opening with an executive breakfast, Love & Legacy formed part of Global Sevilla School’s 24th anniversary programme. Earlier in the month, the school held Mindfulness Week from 6 to 9 October 2026, featuring mindful walking, acts of kindness, and mindfulness practices woven into everyday activities and care for the school environment. The programme also included a parent seminar titled “Understanding Our Family through a Systemic Lens” and concluded with mindfulness assessments for students and activities with parents.
