Sinarmas World Academy: Best STEM School in Indonesia

In a world driven by innovation, families looking for the best STEM education in Indonesia want more than strong academics. They want a school that develops innovators, critical thinkers, and problem-solvers who are ready to make a real difference.

Established in 2008, Sinarmas World Academy (SWA) has built a strong reputation for combining academic rigour with standout achievement in robotics, STEM, and emerging technologies.  This year, SWA made history by hosting the first-ever VEX Robotics competition in Indonesia. Its SWA RoboKnights, spanning Elementary, Middle, and High School, secured six major awards and earned the honour of representing Indonesia at the VEX Robotics World Championship in the United States.

Building Future Innovators from Day One

At SWA, this journey begins early. The school’s Elementary School teams — SWA Diggers, Teranova, and SWA Mineral Hunters — have earned top honours at the First LEGO League, demonstrating strong STEM performance and scientific thinking among young learners. SWA Junior RoboKnights have also competed in major events such as WRO National, First LEGO League Friendly at Jakarta Intercultural School, and First LEGO League Friendly Singapore. These experiences give students early exposure to authentic challenges, teamwork, creativity, and global collaboration.

Commenting on these achievements, Kelly Hon, Sinarmas World Academy’s Early Years and Elementary School Principal, shared, “We believe that early exposure to diverse learning opportunities is key to unlocking a child’s full potential. By engaging in a wide range of disciplines, our students develop resilience, confidence, and strong problem-solving skills – essential competencies for success in the 21st century.”

Leading the Standard in STEM Excellence

SWA RoboKnights in Middle and High School have also built an outstanding record in national and international competitions. The team won 1st place at the WRO International Final 2024 in Izmir, Türkiye; 1st place at WRO Indonesia 2025 in Surabaya; and three Gold Medals plus the Start-Up Award at the WRO International Final 2025 in Singapore.

These achievements are especially meaningful because of the impact behind the work. Student projects such as OceanVoyager, a remotely operated underwater vehicle developed to support coral reef restoration through underwater documentation and coral growth monitoring, and LUMA, an AI-powered headset designed to help people with ALS, stroke, and other neuromuscular conditions communicate, show how SWA students are using robotics and AI to address real environmental and human challenges.

Reflecting on this, Dr. Haoken, Sinarmas World Academy’s IBDP Coordinator, shared, “This is what innovation looks like in an IB learning environment. Students build, test, fail forward, reflect, and improve through a disciplined design cycle. They learn to collaborate under pressure, communicate decisions with evidence, and lead with purpose – skills that matter in life and that empower them to create meaningful impact in their communities.”

Where Innovation Meets Global Education

With a strong international curriculum and a proven record in science, technology, robotics, and AI, Sinarmas World Academy continues to prepare students for top universities, future STEM careers and meaningful contributions to the world around them.
