Akira Back Returns to Jakarta With Elevated Flavor,
New Altitude On The 100th Floor of Autograph Tower
Chef Akira Back brings his namesake restaurant back to the capital with contemporary Japanese fine dining.
After first arriving in Jakarta in 2014, Akira Back is returning to the city with a new location and a new perspective. The globally recognised chef and restaurateur has opened Akira Back Jakarta on the 100th floor of Autograph Tower at Thamrin Nine, introducing what the restaurant positions as the highest dining experience in Indonesia.
The new restaurant marks a new chapter for the Akira Back name in Jakarta. The new location brings Chef Akira Back’s contemporary Japanese cuisine to one of the city’s most elevated settings, pairing his signature dishes with panoramic views across Jakarta.
“Returning to Jakarta, at its very highest point, is an honour. This city has always held a special place in my heart. Now we celebrate it from above everything.” said Chef Akira Back, Founder, Akira Back.
“Akira Back Jakarta reflects our conviction in this city and in the depth of Indonesia’s appetite for world-class hospitality. This is a significant, long-term investment in the guest — in the
belief that discerning diners here expect, and deserve, the very best. We are here to build something lasting, not simply to open.” said Irawan Sukma Nugraha, Business Director Akira Back & Chief Strategic Officer Adhya Group.
Set on the 100th floor of Autograph Tower, Akira Back Jakarta is designed around a more intimate dining experience, with 60 seats in total, including 52 seats in the main dining room and a private VIP room for up to eight guests.
The location plays an important role in the experience. Guests leave the pace of the city behind as they make their way to the top of the tower, with the Jakarta skyline becoming part of the dining room once they arrive.
Contemporary Japanese with a Global Point of View
At Akira Back Jakarta, Japanese technique meets the Korean and American heritage that has long influenced Chef Back’s cooking.
The menu combines sushi and sashimi with seafood, robata-grilled dishes and signature creations that bring together Japanese precision, global flavours and influences from Chef Back’s international career.
One of the restaurant’s best-known dishes is the AB Tuna Pizza, served on a crisp base with umami aioli, micro shiso, and white truffle oil. Other signatures include Kanpachi Goma, featuring Japanese kingfish with yuzu goma, citrus, and herb oil, and the Brother From Another Mother Roll, which pairs freshwater eel and saltwater eel in perfect harmony.
The menu continues with Rock Shrimp Tempura with gochujang mayo and chives; Grilled Octopus with shiso verde, anticucho, and smoked potato foam; and the 48 Hour Short Rib, reflecting the kitchen’s emphasis on time, technique, and precision.
For dessert, the Truffle Ice Cream Pizza puts a playful spin on the restaurant’s signature dish, transforming the familiar pizza concept into a decadent final course.
For guests seeking a more indulgent experience, the menu also features Toro Caviar with gochujang miso, topped with jalapeño and Oscietra caviar; Wagyu & Eringii Hot Rock Ishiyaki, where wagyu is seared on a hot rock tableside; and the Signature Tartare with umami salt, ginger gel, and dashi aioli.

From Professional Snowboarder to Global Chef
Chef Akira Back’s culinary career began after an unconventional start. Born in Seoul and raised in Aspen, Colorado, he first pursued professional snowboarding before moving into the kitchen and joining a Japanese restaurant in Aspen.
Chef Back has since built an international restaurant portfolio across cities including Seoul, Bangkok, Toronto, Dubai, Hong Kong, Istanbul and more. Jakarta holds a particular place in that journey. With the return to Jakarta brings the restaurant brand back to a city that has itself evolved significantly over the past decade.
His cooking reflects that international background, combining Japanese technique with the flavours and experiences he has encountered throughout his career. Through his love for food and sense of adventure, Chef Back was able to bring these very same profound memories to his namesake restaurant.
A Restaurant for Life’s Important Moments
The new Akira Back Jakarta is built to “Celebrate Life” and create a place for special occasions such as anniversaries, proposals, birthdays, family gatherings and career milestones, while also recognising that some of the best reasons to celebrate are simply being together.
The combination of a limited number of tables, attentive service, contemporary Japanese cuisine and a setting high above Jakarta is intended to make the restaurant feel distinct from a conventional fine dining experience.
Akira Back Jakarta is now open for dinner from 17:00 to 23:00, with reservations available through SevenRooms and WhatsApp at +62 813-1608-080.
Located at Autograph Tower, 100th Floor, Thamrin Nine, the restaurant brings the Akira Back name back to Jakarta with a new setting and a clear ambition: to become one of the city’s defining destinations for dining and celebration.
