The 1883 Drink Design Competition (DDC) 2026 successfully brought together some of Indonesia’s finest beverage talents through an exploration of creativity and innovation under the theme “Future of Beverage: From Solid to Liquid.”

Organised by 1883 Maison Routin France, a premium French syrup brand, in collaboration with PT Sukanda Djaya, this year’s competition provided a platform for bartenders and beverage professionals to explore new possibilities in creating unique drinking experiences, while encouraging them to envision the future of the beverage industry from a more creative and innovative perspective.

The Competition in Three Rounds

Embracing a challenging concept, the 1883 DDC 2026 took participants through three rounds designed to test their technical skills, creativity, conceptualisation, and ability to transform an idea into an engaging beverage creation.

Through the theme “Future of Beverage: From Solid to Liquid,” participants were challenged to create drinks inspired by food, taking the flavours, textures, and characteristics of a dish and transforming them into a beverage with its own identity, story, and experience.

The competition was judged by eight industry professionals with diverse backgrounds and expertise, ranging from mixology and bartending to beverage development, culinary arts, and the wider F&B industry. This diversity of perspectives not only provided a comprehensive judging process but also gave participants the opportunity to gain valuable insights directly from experienced industry practitioners.

“It was an amazing experience to be part of 1883 DDC 2026. The team did a fabulous job creating an exciting platform for creativity and talent. I truly believe this competition will make a great impact on our industry.” Judge, 1883 DDC 2026.

Celebrating Talent, Creativity and the Beverage Community

More than just a competition, 1883 DDC 2026 also created a space for participants and industry professionals to share experiences, exchange ideas, build connections, and celebrate their passion for the beverage world.

Enthusiasm was evident throughout the competition, from the preparation process to the presentation of each creation before the judges. Every participant brought a different approach and interpretation to the competition theme, resulting in a diverse range of creations that demonstrated how a beverage can become a medium for expressing ideas, stories, and creativity.

The competition concluded with the announcement of the 1883 DDC 2026 winners:

1st Place — I Ketut Ariawan

The Westin Resort & Spa Ubud
Creation: “Sambal Bongkot Highball”

Inspired by Bali’s distinctive sambal bongkot, this creation transforms the bold flavours of the kecombrang-based sambal into a refreshing and daring beverage — a tribute to the richness of Balinese cuisine.

2nd Place — Aloysius Raynald

Tutto Bono Ristorante
Creation: “Palu Butung”

Inspired by Palu Butung, a traditional dessert from South Sulawesi known for its banana and coconut milk flavours, this creation reinterprets those familiar flavours in a more contemporary beverage format.

3rd Place — Putu Darma Santosa Jiwa

Cretya Ubud
Creation: “Biu Nangka”

Biu Nangka brings the flavours of sanganan, a traditional Indonesian snack, into a more modern experience. The sweet and aromatic combination of banana and jackfruit evokes the richness of Indonesia’s traditional treats, translating familiar flavours into a beverage with a fresh perspective.

The winners’ creations demonstrated that innovation in beverages goes beyond flavour. It encompasses storytelling, technique, presentation, ingredient selection, creativity, and the courage to introduce new interpretations of a drink.

For the finalists, taking part in 1883 DDC 2026 was also a learning journey that broadened their perspectives on the beverage industry and provided opportunities to connect with fellow professionals who share the same passion.

“Thank you, 1883 Maison Routin and Sukanda Djaya Team, for an incredible experience. I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to be part of this amazing event. Beyond the competition, it was a space where we could learn, connect, and share our passion for beverages. Thank you to everyone behind the event for the hospitality, inspiration, and unforgettable experience,” 1883 DDC 2026 Finalist.
