Following its huge success in Bandung, Archipelago Hotels, the largest private hotel management group in Indonesia and Southeast Asia, is once again bringing a Japanese culinary experience through the Archipelago Japanese Street Food Festival - "60 Seconds to Tokyo". This time, the festival was held at fave hotel Sidoarjo on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, combining Tokyo-style street food, Japanese pop culture entertainment, and interactive dining experiences for the people of East Java.
This festival was organized to answer the high enthusiasm of the community in Sidoarjo, Surabaya, and surrounding areas for Japanese popular culture, urban lifestyle trends, and authentic Land of the Rising Sun cuisine. Carrying a live cooking concept, guests could directly witness the chefs' expertise in serving Tokyo signature dishes with a focus on speed, precision, and ingredient freshness, reflecting the fast service philosophy that inspired the "60 Seconds to Tokyo" theme.
A Fusion of Culinary and Japanese Pop Culture in One Festival
More than just a culinary festival, Archipelago Japanese Street Food Festival – “60 Seconds to Tokyo” offered visitors an engaging Japanese cultural experience. The event opened with a Yosakoi dance performance, while throughout the event, visitors could enjoy a variety of activities inspired by Japanese culture and Japanese Pop Culture, including the opportunity to have their names written in Japanese characters for free by a Shodō artist.
The excitement continued with a cosplay competition held in collaboration with the Japan Matsuri community, where participants showcased their favorite characters from anime, manga, and video games. Visitors could also take part in various Japanese Pop Culture-themed games and interactive quizzes, with opportunities to win a variety of exciting prizes. A DJ performance combining modern festival-style Japanese music with the latest Indonesian pop songs further complemented the lively atmosphere until the end of the event.
The festival also featured a special menu curated by Archipelago Hotels chefs, inspired by Tokyo's signature flavors:
Food: Chicken Kamikaze, Chicken Katsu Sando, Chicken Yakitori, Grilled Chicken Breast with Koji Sauce, Hambagu, Prawn Tempura Nori Taco, Takoyaki, Wagyu Burger, Yakimeshi Fried Rice, and Menchi Katsu.
Beverages: Shizuku Matcha Cooler, Shiso - Basil Berry, Sakura Sunset, and Hojicha Latte. Dessert: Kuromitsu Matcha Puff and Japanese Cotton Cheese.
